Pure London

I have been an awful Blogger as of late. Mostly because I have been bogged down with third year Uni work and trying to decide what to do with my life after I finally graduate, resulting in little time for anything else!
By the start of my final year I still had no idea what I wanted to do for a career, I had always planned to work within an area of the fashion industry, but I was yet to work out which particular pathway I wanted to take, it's surprising how many there are! It wasn't until I received an email from my tutor advising me to look on www.milkround.com for ideas and as the majoirty of graduate schemes would be closing by the end of December, I was running out of time before I was even really getting started in my final year. Curious, I searched all of the different retailers and brands offering careers for graduates and straight away the role of Buyer stuck out to me. Compared to the other roles on offer it was a very creative opportunity where the individual is responsible for interpreting the trends of seasonal fashion by constantly being in contact with the market. It also stated that prospective buyers must also have sound judgement and be good planners and organizers, as well as willing to take risks. So overall, a very varied role with room for lots of flexibility. I would also be working in a Head Office and almost definitely based in London, which sounded ideal.
So that decided, I'm currently applying for about 4 million Buyer's Admin Assistant roles a week, probably a lot of them I have applied to twice because I'm signed up to just about every retail job searching site in the country and it gets confusing! But I'm excited, if all goes to plan I'll be living in London within the next six months.
Anyway, after the nightmare dissertation was handed in, last week I went to Pure London, the UK's leading trade fashion event for sourcing womenswear, young creative fashion for women, accessory and footwear brands. As I am focusing my major project around creating and introducing a new range for a leading department store, I thought this would be a great opportunity to see how buyer's currently operate within the industry, how they get inspired and the negotiation process that is involved with buying in a new collection for a store. This was also a great opportunity to find out whether starting a career in buying was really for me, and thankfully the day out only further confirmed how much I love the fashion industry and now I'm really looking forward to heading down the buying route!

The first thing I did when I arrived was listen to a talk from WGSN on all of the Macro trends they have predicted for A/W '12. I've listed them below:

Hyperculture
Cultural print and pattern designs are clashed together in unexpected combinations with the strong use of colour joined by patterning for high energy impact. Vibrant prints are controlled and considered for sharp tailoring. Lace and sequins will also reach a new dimension for sharp tailoring.
Radical Neutrality
Moulded sports styles evolve androgynous tailoring and minimalism with neutral colours providing a base for radical shapes. Volume will reach dramatic proportions and minimal, masculine accessories offer real commerciality.
Eco Hedonism
Organic and eco styles are pushed into new territory with dramatic styling. Texture plays a pivotal role with autumnal colours being dark and muted although pattern is important in sophisticated, diffused allovers. Feather light fabrics will create movement for eveningwear.
